A woman has been accused of operating a drug factory in a Waterbury residence where children live.

Carmen Verouschka Morales, 30, was arrested Tuesday and charged with risk of injury to a minor, operation of a drug factory, possession of ½ ounce or more of cocaine and possession of 1 ounce or more of heroin/fentanyl, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.

Bessette said the charges arose after a search and seizure warrant was carried out at 22 Melrose Ave. The search was conducted by the police department’s VICE and Intelligence Unit, Auto Theft Task Force and Gang Task Force as well as the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force.

Authorities allegedly found 481.4 grams of cocaine that was packaged for sale, 3,821 bags of fentanyl that was packaged for sale, a Glock handgun with ammunition, drug paraphernalia and $5,021, according to Bessette. Bessette also said officers found two children’s bedrooms “in proximity” to the narcotics and that the substances were “easily accessible to children.”
